Life Lessons of Wisdom & Unselfish Acts of Kindness

My life has always been challenging so when Curt, my husband and father of two daughters went through an extremely trying period in his life involving alcohol abuse and an extramarital affair it seemed par for course. Living in Jacksonville and not having any family living closer than 4 states away was a great disadvantage for a single mother of two young children. The funds never stretched far enough for rent, groceries, electricity, daycare, diapers. Audrey and Jimmy, her husband, who we

A True Friend

I met my friend on a short trip to Nantucket, MA last year. I had been going through an especially rough two years, being diagnosed and treated for breast cancer and then going through divorce, and I was in a lot of pain.
I had a really painful home life, my father was an alcoholic, very volatile and my mother was so caught up with him that my sisters and I became invisible.
So, I had never had someone reach out to me in the way my friend did. She really listened and empathized with my pain.

Borrowing from Retirement, Momma to the Rescue.

I was recently separated from my wife who had devastated my credit and left me with multiple unpaid bills that I could not repay. The day after our separation my boss fired me from my job of 9 years. I had no way to pay any of my bills, including the high school tuition for my daughter from a previous relationship. My credit was heading down the toilet and my daughter was not allowed to register in her school that she had been in for several years and excelled in. She gets straight As. My

Getting me through

My parents, especially my mom, have really been there for me since I became a single parent. I was already in debt before I became pregnant and she has been trying to help me take care of my financial matters as well as help me take care of my child. My mother and father assist me everyday in picking my child up from daycare before 630pm every day. I feel so helpless but they continuously lift me up. I feel like I do not deserve parents like this, especially my mom. I thank God everyday

Not your typical father.

My father is the most unselfish person I will ever know. Not only has he always been there for me, but he never complained once, and I am 23 years old. He is the most patient, nonjudgemental man in the world. Not only has he always been there for me, but also for so many other people. He takes care of his elderly mother, father, aunt, and even his brother. Not to mention he has myself, my sister and brother who rely on him alot. I am married and have a place of my own, but my sister is a single

Be a strong woman

As a young mother I knew the one thing I wanted to give my daughter was a strength of herself. To never go with the flow, to be her own person and to stand up for herself in any situation. Of course most mothers wish this for all their children.
Well, I got my wish and more. I got the most stubborn, headstrong, irritating "grownup" I have ever known. Please heed my warning, be careful what you wish for.We must butt heads twenty times a day. If it weren't for that wonderful Grandson

Once a Teacher, Always a Mentor

When a professor in college makes a difference in your life for years after you've graduated. Whats the appropriate thank you gift? Nicole was never Mrs. Morrison-Mathern in her classes and never demanded the respect that others with her long list of graduate degrees do. Instead she went about teaching in a manner that we should all take a lesson in doing; she put the effort into getting to know the students and earning their trust along the way, teaching them lessons of life not just what

Angel From Up Above

Have you ever felt like you had an angel that protects you and helps you in your time of need? Well, I feel like that all the time. My mother is a superwomen in my eyes. She supports me in every way- emotionally, physically, and mentally. My dad left me and my other sisters and brothers. We had nowhere to go, nothing to eat, nothing. My mother always had depended on my father, so when he disappeared out our lives our world was crushed. She picked up her life and ours and got us to a better
