Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the grant programs offered by Advance America?

A: Advance America offers three (3) grants as part of our Community Outreach Program.

  1. Financial Literacy Grants are provided to non-profit organizations that hold financial literacy and money management programs for citizens in their communities.
  2. Scholarship Grants are provided to high school seniors who wish to continue their education by attending an accredited college, university or trade school.
  3. After-School Activity Grants are provided to non-profit organizations that focus on educational and athletic after school programs for kid grades K-8.

Q: How can I apply for a grant through the Advance America Grant Program?

A: If you are a non-profit organization that is in good standing or if you are a high school senior and meet all the requirements, simply download our grant application here. Complete the form and fax it back to 864-336-7889.

Q: Where do I have to live to apply for a grant?

A: Because Advance America believes in giving back to the communities we serve, applicants must live or operate a non-profit organization near an Advance America store in order to qualify for a grant. To find a location nearest you, please visit our Find a Location section and enter your zip code.

Q: Who can apply for the Financial Literacy Grant or the After-School Activity Grant?

A: Any non-profit organization that is in good standing and is currently providing one of the two programs can apply for the grants.

Q: Who can apply for the Scholarship Grant?

A: Applicant guidelines are set by participating non-profit community outreach organizations. However, generally these organizations require the following minimum criteria: (1) annual family household income under $75,000; (2) a grade point average of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0; (3) acceptance to attend an accredited college, university or trade school; and (4) active involvement with a non-profit community outreach program. Other requirements may apply, depending upon the community organizations established scholarship guidelines.

Q: I am a student who is currently volunteering in my community through a non-profit organization. How important is that?

A: Advance America is dedicated to responsible support of non-profit community organizations. While each community outreach organization participating in the Advance America Scholarship grant program establishes their own guidelines and requirements for scholarship applications, Advance America encourages all participating organizations to require some form of community service from scholarship recipients.
